Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

I was blessed to receive a copy of Love and Respect in my mail box the other day. I'd been looking forward to reading it, so managed to set aside a couple of hours yesterday. I'm glad I did.

Psychological studies affirm it, and the Bible has been saying it for ages. Cracking the communication code between husband and wife involves understanding one thing: that unconditional respect is as powerful for him as unconditional love is for her. It's the secret to marriage that every couple seeks, and yet few couples ever find.

His revolutionary message, featured on Focus on the Family, is for anyone in marital crisis... wanting to stay happily married...who's feeling lonely. It's for engaged couples...victims of affairs...pastors and counselors seeking marterial that can save a marriage.

My thoughts.

Wow. When I ordered this book from Thomas Nelson, a part of me thought this would be another so-so book on happy marriages.

Was I ever wrong! This book brings a new dimension to how to treat your husband/wife. I've always heard that husbands are commanded to love their wives...but wives commanded to respect their husbands? No way.

This book opened my eyes to scripture I had read but never fully understood...or perhaps my wifely ears just were not listening. Dr. Eggerichs has been a counselor who has helped save many marriages through his Love and Respect conferences and it shows in this book. He has a true desire to help as many people as possible have happy marriages.

For too long we've allowed Satan to dictate how much or little we give in our marriage. For too long women have denounced men as the 'baddies' and taunted them with commands to love them, regardless of how the woman behaves.

A thought provoking read. which I wholeheartedly recommend to every man and woman out there. It should be a must have engagement gift on every list.
